988Corps

988 is the new three-digit number anyone in the U.S. can call or text, 24/7, for free and confidential support if they are in distress or need suicide prevention and crisis resources. Please visit 988lifeline.org for more information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

988Corps is a simple, grassroots service to help you find paid, volunteer, or service year opportunities to help answer 988 calls, texts, and chats.

How To Volunteer | Most anyone over 18 can become a volunteer crisis counselor and answer 988 calls, texts, and chats. The center you volunteer with will train you and make sure you are supported through your volunteering experience.

Please visit samhsa.gov/find-help/988/jobs to find a list of the centers across the country that answer 988 calls, texts, and chats. You can click through on centers near you to check whether they are training new volunteer counselors right now.

If the centers nearest you are not accepting new volunteers right now, all centers marked with an asterisk (*) have remote opportunities, often including volunteering opportunities. For example, Samaritans (based in Boston) is always open to new out-of-state volunteers to help take 988 calls, texts, and chats.

Paid Positions | Please visit samhsa.gov/find-help/988/jobs to find a list of the centers across the country that are hiring new counselors to answer 988 calls, texts, and chats. You can click through on centers near you to check whether their openings are for part-time or full-time positions.

If there is not a center near you that is hiring right now, all centers marked with an asterisk (*) have paid remote opportunities, including centers that are answering 988 calls in Spanish.

AmeriCorps Opportunities | Through AmeriCorps and Healthy Minds Alliance, you can now become part of the 988 movement by applying for a full-time AmeriCorps service year answering 988 calls, texts, and chats, no matter where you live. Please see full details here.

If you work at a crisis call center that may be interested in circulating your job or volunteer opportunities (for free) or becoming an AmeriCorps host site for full-time crisis counselors on a service year, please send a note to partner@988corps.org.
